Basics of Cybersecurity

Cybersecurity Cybersecurity is that branch of computer science domain that deals with maintaining the security of hardware, software or even a network as a whole from potential cyber attacks. Every device connected to a network ( like internet) are always vulnerable to cyber attacks that can often lead to lot of damages. CIA triad The three letters here i.e., CIA refers to Confidentiality , Integrity and Availability .  These are the three pillars that ultimately form the branch of cybersecurity. These three can also be considered as the three vertices of an equilateral triangle, Equilateral because each element of the triad is equally important and the compromise of even one of the elements can cause a major security breach. Introduction to Ethical Hacking for beginners

 Ethical Hacking

Hacking is a commonly used word in this digital era. Commonly associated with its negative impact on the world , it is considered as a cyber crime. Yes, it is a crime but only when someone hacks with a malicious intend. Which also means that there is an ethical (good) side for hacking too. That's when we prefix the word ' Ethical ' with ' Hacking ' so as to form ' Ethical Hacking '.

So what exactly is Ethical Hacking?

When the whole process of hacking is done with the permission of the owner of the system , device or network and you work within the ethical limits set by your employer , that becomes Ethical Hacking.

Now hacking itself can be defined as trying to gain unauthorized access to a network or a device.

So why would this unauthorized activity be considered as ethical?

Here unauthorized doesn't mean that we are doing something illegal. Ethical Hackers use their hacking skills to gain access to their target (as provided by the employer) so as to find the loopholes and vulnerabilities in their security systems and therefore analyze and try to fix them.

So contrary to a myth that exists today , hacking isn't always illegal and also have a legal side to it.
